Non-Rally Scoring (Traditional/Side-Out Scoring)
A scoring system where only the serving team can score points. The receiving team can win the serve but cannot score until they are serving. Games are typically played to 11 (win by 2).

Rally Scoring: A scoring system where a point is awarded on every rally, regardless of which team served. Games are typically played to 21 (win by 2), and both teams can score on every point. In some formats, a “freeze” applies near the end, requiring the winning point to be won on serve.
Ready Position: Athletic stance for quick movement.
Region: A larger geographic area made up of multiple sections or divisions, used for organizing leagues, playoffs, or championships.
Regular Season Play: Scheduled weekly matches before playoffs begin.
Roster: List of eligible players on a team.
Round Robin: Format where each team or line plays all others in the group.

Side Out: When the serving team loses the serve.
Skill Levels: DUPR divisions: 3.0–3.49, 3.5–3.99, 4.0–4.49, 4.5–4.99.
Smash: Powerful overhead shot to end a point.
Split Step: Small hop to prepare for the next shot.
Stacking: Doubles strategy to optimize player positioning.
State Director: Person overseeing league growth and operations within a state.
Substitute: Temporary player for one match; must meet eligibility rules.
Supreme Tie Breaker: Special tiebreak round in mixed combo matches if match points are tied.

Team: Group of players competing together in a league.
Team Match Points: Total points earned by a team in a match.
Texas Team Pickleball: Official Texas affiliate of Triple Team Pickleball League, running leagues and events statewide.
Third Shot Drop: Soft shot after the serve, aimed at the kitchen.
Tie Breaker: Extra game or round to decide a tied match.
Topspin: Spin making the ball dip and bounce higher.
Triple Team: Match format with three doubles lines per team, three rounds, and three ways to play (men’s, women’s, mixed).

Volley: Hitting the ball in the air before it bounces.
Violations: Actions that break league rules or the official pickleball rulebook, including unsportsmanlike conduct, use of ineligible players, or equipment infractions. Violations can result in warnings, penalties, forfeits, or disqualification.

Waiver and Release of Liability: A legal agreement signed by participants acknowledging the risks of playing pickleball and releasing the league, organizers, and facilities from liability for injuries or damages that may occur during participation.
Wildcard: Extra playoff spot given to a team with the next highest win percentage if needed.
